According to the local police, the woman was attacked by the wild boar, and her daughter ran to get help for her.
Over a hundred villagers and senior government officials attended her final rites on Monday afternoon, a rare sight according to local activists, a day after a brave woman died in a fierce fight with a wild boar while saving her young daughter in a village in Korba.
The deceased Duvashiya Agariya, 45, and her 11-year-old daughter were digging soil with pickaxes in a farm in Teliyamar village on Sunday when, according to the villagers, a large wild boar from a herd lost its way and charged her daughter.
Agariya tried to stop the boar that got stuck in her saree in an effort to save her daughter. Agariya used the axe to attack the boar, but the animal bit her hands, legs, thighs, back, and chest, eating her saree. When the daughter returned with the villagers to seek assistance, she discovered both her mother and the boar unconscious. The boar was found dead in her lap, and the police reported that she had passed away immediately.
Her husband and five children, including four daughters, survive Agariya. Mohit Ram Kerketta, a local tribal MLA, attended her funeral on Monday afternoon, along with forest and police officials, janpat members, sarpanch, and more than a hundred villagers from various castes.
